Nutritional Assessment of Cardio-thoracic Critically Ill Patients:Review of Literature

Abstract

The current literature covered the following section; nutrition for critically ill
patients, nutrition for cardiac critically ill patients, nutrition for thoracic critically ill
patients, method of nutrition for critically ill patients, malnutrition for cardiac critically ill
patients and thoracic critically ill patients, role of critical care nurse in nutritional
assessment and management of cardiac critically ill patients and thoracic critically ill
patients. Nutrition in critically ill patients; critically ill patients are unable to maintain
adequate nutritional intake to meet metabolic demands which neededusually. The critically
ill patients are already in a catabolic crisis; therefore expect early feeding to be beneficial.
In intensive care units critically ill patients’nutrition becomes internationally a standard of
care (Cox & Rasmussen, 2014).
